Hello Golfers,

Exciting news from the golf course.

We finally received the new hole cutter, kindly donated by Randall Adams.

Hiten did a training session today with Kataka and Ali (who is in charge of cutting the new holes and plug the old ones).

The new cutter is a lot sharper and more exact than the old model we had and the edges of the holes are more clearly defined as you can see on the second picture.

Hiten also trained Ali on how to replace the plug in the old hole, aerate the green around the hole, water the area and then roll it several times.

As you can see on the third picture, the old hole becomes nearly invisible and should disappear after a couple of cuts.

I hope you enjoy your new golf holes and thanks again to Randall for his generous donation.

OCTOBER EVENTS

This weekend Saturday , 2nd October we play our postponed September Monthly Mug & Ladies Medal.

Next long weekend (Monday 11th is a public holiday) we will have the NCBA Golf Series on Saturday 9th which is a qualifying event for the finals that will be played in Nairobi. As this is a qualifying event, the handicap limit is a playing handicap of 28 for men and 36 for ladies. As per WHS rules, the playing handicap will be 95% of the course handicap. Players with higher handicaps are welcome, but will only win the subsidiary prizes as below.

On Sunday we will of course hold the annual Diani Goat Derby. The golfers have bought a goat that will race in Frank Morby’s memory. My original name proposal for Frank’s goat was “Deaf Midget”, but unfortunately that was rejected by a (small) majority. His goat is now called “Fraaank, Fore!!!”.

The next big event in October is the Safari Pro Tour. We expect about 60 professional golfers from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and other neighbouring countries. We will kick off with a Pro-Am event on Saturday 23rd and the pros will play their competition from Sunday 24th to Wednesday 27th. On that Wednesday we also expect a group of golfers from Nairobi and as the pros will play in the morning, we can still play our clubnite in the afternoon, on a course prepared for the pros!
